Re: About Paul's confidence...

I don't believe George Martin was fed up with Paul because Paul was the only one who wanted to keep making albums how they had always done it. Plus, Paul had always had the tightest working relationship with George Martin so I'm sure G.M. would've kept producing him.

Did you ever hear the story about how G.M. essentially made Paul audition before he would produce Tug of War? I guess G.M. had been less than thrilled with the last few Paul albums at that point and wanted to hear what new material he had before he would agree to produce him.

According to the Emerick book there was even tension between GM and Paul - Paul was very particular about how he wanted things musically and there wasn't much that George could offer at that point. I think GM needed a break from anything Beatle related after those last few contentious albums..

For what I've read, if GM said "This should be done it this way" Paul would turn and say "Ok then we're going to do it this other way" xD

That's true, they often disagreed on how to do things, but it wasn't personal, maybe because GM was so diplomatic. I think though that GM wasn't looking forward to more of those discussions after the last few albums.

Well-said! :) And I'm sure Paul felt the same.

No, I've never heard the "Tug of War" story! Heh, good for GM. :)

Yeah, I assume GM's relationship with Paul was better than with the others, but he still might not have wanted to hop right back in the saddle with him after all that drama, you know? I don't know, though, obviously; perhaps he'd have been willing. But I suspect they all would have preferred a break from each other, some more adamantly than others. :)
