I think you're missing a lot of what I, and the OPer, are trying to say. It's not about whether or not it's right to be with the one you love. It's about the manner in which you choose to do that, and I personally think that by joining the band, Linda compromised her own integrity in a way that was beneficial to neither her or Paul. I understand hardcore Wings fans will disagree with this though. It's a value judgment, but what you need to understand is I'm not arguing for what you think I'm arguing for. *bigger sigh*

"I don't think Linda compromised her integrity at all by joining WIngs, and I do think it was very beneficial to her and Paul and the kids (as I pointed out in my long ass comment below)."

That's fine and dandy, and I thoroughly support your right to that opinion - I just wanted to make sure that THAT was what we were all talking about, not the age old career vs family stuff. Because I honestly don't think that's what the rant was about.

I think both the OPer and I meant "her own career as opposed to being in Wings," not "her own career as opposed to anything else." Her musical career is really what's under discussion - I must emphasise again, we were NOT talking about career vs family.

I'm only saying it because it's the truth! Seriously, if Linda had just come along for the ride in order to be with her family, and maybe taken a few snaps while she was there, I would've had infinitely more respect for her.

Aha, there's the issue. I don't think we'll ever be able to reach consensus, then, because some of us here take this idea of "artistic integrity" very seriously, and some of us don't. At least not nearly to the same degree. I personally feel the whole concept has a lot more to do with image, snobbery, and self-congratulation than actual art, and often results in the most nauseatingly egocentric wank (John and Yoko gave us some good examples of that).

The bottom line for me is that Paul still produced some great art, "integrity" or not. And it's clear from a lot of his interviews that he doesn't rank his solo career with his work with The Beatles, that Wings was not about recreating that level of artistry and perfection. And I absolutely love that about Paul.

Every time I think I couldn't POSSIBLY love you any more than I already do...you say something like this. :D :D :D

Hee, thanks babe, but I just realized my original point could be taken REEEEEEEEEEEEALLY wrong; I didn't mean everyone who cares more than I do about artistic integrity is a snob. My brain just went straight to all the artists I've seen waxing poetic (and condescending) about the concept of art and how sacred it is and... I dunno, it just really irritates me when people make a God out of art just so that they can make themselves out to be one of its High Priests. Show me your painting and shut up, or at least talk in a tolerably un-bloated fashion about it. Grrr, what can I say? Pet peeve of mine. :) *hops off soapbox*

Anyway, enough of that! C'mere, you! *SMOOCHES BACK*
